Why is consistency so powerful?
Being consistent everyday leads to habits. These habits are the actions we take everyday, and actions lead to success. These actions don’t need to be hours long, or huge tasks, but small steps that help you to progress towards your goal. Taking one small step towards your goal everyday is better than doing nothing and will form a habit, while preventing a burnout.
What makes it so important for musicians?
Making it in music is all about becoming and staying relevant, the underlying goal for all musicians is to be heard. If you are consistent in releasing music, playing gigs and sharing content, you will build momentum and keep it going. Your fan base will grow and will always be eager to hear the next release or get tickets to the next gig, because you will be top of mind for them and they won’t forget about you.
How can I be consistent?
Social Media – Spend a small amount of time every single day promoting your music on social media. This doesn’t have to consume your life; it can by 10 minutes making a post and another 10 minutes engaging with your fan base. If you do this everyday you will see growth in no time.
Gigging – Gig as often as you can. They’re great opportunities to expand your fan base, connect with listeners, network with industry professionals and showcase your latest material. The more you do it, the better.
Releasing Music – Thinking of releasing an album or EP? Consider releasing the tracks as singles each month. This builds great momentum and means you always have something new for fans to look forward to.
Weekly Live Streams – Host a live stream on Facebook or Instagram every week in which you play some songs and talk to fans, as well as making them feel connected, it gives them something to look forward to each week.
Consistency isn’t just about repeating the same task over and over. It’s about growing, developing and learning from what you do. Look and the results and find out what works and what doesn’t.
