Firstly, Friday is the new global music industry release day for new tracks. It was introduced back in 2015 in more than 45 major music markets as part of 'new music Fridays'. The benefit to new music Friday is that countries previously had a different release day for music. Therefore by everyone releasing new music on a Friday, every country will get it on the same day.

However, we still see musicians releasing tracks on different days in the week e.g a Saturday or a Wednesday. Why? We are not sure. We cannot see any advantage to releasing a track outside of the industry status quo. Therefore if you are releasing a new track, make sure you drop it on a Friday. Here is the reason why.

One reason is because Spotify playlist curators are looking to add new tracks into their playlists on a Friday. You do not want to miss out on the fun.

Industry Norm

Another reason is that it is now the industry norm. If you are releasing a track on any other day in the week then it looks, well kind of amateur. You do not want to give this impression to the industry especially if you are an independent artist looking for representation from a label.

Fans

Finally, fans now expect new music on a Friday. Major labels have been drilling this into them for years by providing them the goods every Friday. As a result, fans globally have got used to the industry trend of new music dropping on a Friday. You do not want to throw them out by dropping a track on a different day.

Therefore give the fans and the music industry what they want, great new music on a FRIDAY!
