If you are a musician, you maybe interested in taking a course in your chosen field. Or you may have actually studied a music course. However, is it really worth studying music?

Is it really worth studying music?
I personally do not think that going to university to study music is worth it.
However, I do think that musicians need to be constantly learning. Luckily, the online world enables musicians to learn quickly. For example, YouTube has a large amount of resource for musicians and the education can often be better than at your local college or university,
Anyways, lets go back to basics, what is music?
Music in its simplest sense is an art form therefore you do not need to study to be a great artist.
Also, you need to decide what you are going to study music for. Are you wanting to work in the music industry or are you wanting to pursue a career as a musician?
Either way, a degree or course does not guarantee anything.
Also, by studying a music degree it will cost and it is not cheap. Plus there is no reassurance that you will get a job with a great income afterwards.
Personally I would say a course like business or marketing would be betterĀ because that is more advantageous in a recruiters eyes.
On the flip side, if you are wanting to get into music theory then a music course is probably worth it.

Is it really worth studying music?
I do not want to sound too much like a killjoy here in regards to studying music because it can be right for certain people. However you can succeed without studying it and experience can often be better in the long run.
Overall, only you can decide if going to study music is worth it. But just remember that thousands of musicians have become global sensations without a music degree behind them. An example is Ed Sheeran who actually quit college to concentrate on his music.
